About Us – Old

Overview

Sailing into Wellness is a not for profit social enterprise born out of our passion to utilize the unique setting of the sea to help our communities. Our vision is for Sailing into Wellness to be a healthy natural solution for our communities to look after their physical and mental well-being and it is our mission to use the sea to inspire change in our communities.

Sailing as a Solution

Our sailing program is an educational and therapeutic activity designed to inspire our communities. We support our participants to overcome both physical and mental challenges in an environment that is both exhilarating and therapeutic.

We work with those affected by substance abuse and poor mental health, to help build their recovery; sailing is proven to be a powerful tool in their development. We also provide at risk youths an opportunity to take part in an educational and therapeutic physical group activity.

We take our participants out of their normal environment and into one which inspires and challenges. This is experiential learning in its rawest form; the benefits go far beyond those of learning a new skill (Sailing), our participants not only learn about themselves they allow themselves to connect with their peers in a way which is unlikely in their everyday environment.

Why Sailing?

Evidence shows physical activity can help protect people against the onset of depression and anxiety.

Physical activity causes a chemical change in the brain which can help change our mood.

Physical activity brings about a sense of greater self-esteem, self-control and the ability to rise to a challenge.

Our service will complement existing supports and help relieve pressure on primary care services in Ireland.
